Ever heard of TIC or Teen Information Center? It may sound a bit unfamiliar to some but it will definitely tick with teenagers out there.
Board Member Precious Manuel, chair of committee on youth and sports in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board), has been spearheading the TIC project to educate the youth.
Ms. Manuel said TIC will tackle teen pregnancy, illegal drugs and health issues. “Actually, TIC must address the existing and emerging issues on health like rising number of cases of teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and prohibited drugs,” she said.
“Hindi lang basta health but also education, livelihood, networking, at iba,” she added. A TIC has been established in Hermosa town.
Ms. Manuel said she would encourage the creation of adolescent health development council in certain areas to strengthen service-related activities for the youth even tapping help of non-government organizations (NGOs) from local to national level.
